- Also, Ian desperately hopes this was a werewolf film.
- Again, we get into a discussion of the relative groundedness of the film and how many steps we are away from our own universe in this film.
- Blair Witch (2016)
- Everyone in the Blair Witch movies is in film school. Just make peace with this from the get-go.
- We compare the slow-burn, unscripted nature of the original Blair Witch to the slicker, more “hollywood” Blair Witch 3.
- We get our Doug Jones jokes out, but rest assured they come from a place of love.
- Ian talks about Resident Evil 7 for a few minutes while Fio desperately tries not to die.

Nice to see you're back, and on the day I finally started your Penny Dreadful podcast. Of course, I had been hoping you'd be covering a different film with "Witch" in the title, even though you didn't get to see it when it was originally in theaters. Also, if you want to see all the feature-length collaborations between Wingard & Barrett you'd have to add A Horrible Way to die, which isn't as good as You're Next or The Guest but certainly more original than their Blair Witch.
ReplyDeleteRectify was a great show, but I wouldn't necessarily expect much overlap between fans of that & horror.
DeleteI thought the expanded cast of Blair Witch was mostly just for the bodycount and I didn't care much about them as characters. But I suppose relative to other "bodycount" subgenres of horror (which I don't watch as much) they might not be so bad.
I thought You're Next had a more downbeat ending than The Guest, because she's on the hook for all those murders (although it plays as a note of black comedy).
